DOES WHO IS POTUS OR WHAT HE SAYS REALLY MATTER ???

Now, this is a really great question,  “Does it really matter who is President of the United States and what about what he says, does that really matter?”  According to a lot of liberal pundits the latter question must not mean anything because they are all out there stomping their feet and screaming as loudly as ever that he did not lie and it really did not matter when he said, “If you like your policy, you can keep it; and if you like your doctors, you can keep them also”.  We, the common folk with “COMMON SENSE”, know now that was a lie.  One of many this man has told since he ran for office the first time.  Do you remember how he said he would limit his campaign to the use of public funds?  That was hardly out of his mouth before he flip-flopped and accepted private funds.  He has since proven to be an habitual liar that would “climb a tree to tell a lie, rather than stand on the ground in the  shade of the tree and tell the truth”.  His “DAD” did the President a real injustice by not “taking him out behind the wood shed” when he lied as a boy.  How do I know he lied as a boy?  Because, this is when it starts; and, it is “COMMON SENSE” that if Mom/Dad “does not nip it in the buds” the youngster will develop into someone just like the President.  He just cannot help himself. He has lied to the American people, to the Foreign Heads of States and Leaders, to the national press and, yes, even to his own liberal base.

I am taking the liberty of sending this blog to Bill O’Reilly as he has seen fit to give the President a pass. And, although he thinks he may be lying, he can not bring himself to use “COMMON SENSE” to evaluate and pronounce the President a liar.  Hopefully, he will review this info and finally conclude that the President is a liar due to the circumstantial evidence just as some have been convicted of crimes on the same type of evidence.  The following is a partial list of some of what the President has said; and, so, I will “let you decide” if this all points to a man of questionable integrity.  Please tell me, “does it really matter?”

The following was taken from an email that is circulating around, author unknown:

Looking back through the past 5 years, many “Whens“ pop up. Read them all to better understand where we are going as a country….

WHEN – he refused to disclose who donated money to his election campaign, as other candidates had done, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he received endorsements from people like Louis Farrakhan, Miramar Gaddafi and Hugo Chavez, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – it was pointed out that he was a total newcomer and had absolutely no experience at anything except community organizing, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he chose friends and acquaintances such as Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn who were revolutionary radicals, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – his voting record in the Illinois Senate and in the U.S. Senate came into question, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he refused to wear a flag lapel pin and did so only after a public outcry, people said it didn’t matter. 

WHEN – people started treating him as a Messiah and children in schools were taught to sing his praises, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he stood with his hands over his groin area for the playing of the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he surrounded himself in the White House with advisors who were pro-gun control, pro-abortion, pro-homosexual marriage and wanting to curtail freedom of speech to silence the opposition, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he said he favors sex education in kindergarten, including homosexual indoctrination, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – his personal background was either scrubbed or hidden and nothing could be found about him, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – the place of his birth was called into question, and he refused to produce a birth certificate, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he had an association in Chicago with Tony Rezko – a man of questionable character and who is now in prison and had helped Obama to a sweet deal on the purchase of his home – people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – it became known that George Soros, a multi-billionaire Marxist, spent a ton of money to get him elected, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he  started appointing White House Czars that were radicals, revolutionaries, and even avowed Marxist/Communists, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he stood before the Nation and told us that his intentions were to  “fundamentally transform this Nation” into something else, people said it  didn’t matter.

WHEN – it became known that he had trained ACORN workers in Chicago and served as an attorney for ACORN, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he appointed cabinet members and several advisers who were tax cheats and socialists, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he appointed a Science Czar, John Holdren, who believes in forced abortions, mass sterilizations and seizing babies from teen mothers, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he appointed Cass Sunstein as  Regulatory Czar who believes in “Explicit Consent,” harvesting human organs  without family consent and allowing animals to be represented in court, while  banning all hunting, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he appointed  Kevin Jennings, a homosexual and organizer of a group called Gay, Lesbian,  Straight, Education Network as Safe School Czar and it became known that he had a history of bad advice to teenagers, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he appointed Mark Lloyd as Diversity Czar who believes in curtailing free speech, taking from one and giving to another to spread the  wealth, who supports Hugo Chavez, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN  – Valerie Jarrett, an avowed Socialist, was selected as Obama’s Senior White House Advisor, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – Anita Dunn, White House Communications Director, said Mao Tse Tung was her favorite philosopher and the person she turned to most for inspiration, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he appointed Carol Browner, a well-known socialist as Global Warming Czar working on Cap and Trade as the nation’s largest tax, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he appointed Van Jones, an ex-con and avowed Communist as Green Energy Czar, who since had to resign when this was made known, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – Tom Daschle, Obama’s pick for Health and Human Services Secretary could not be confirmed because he was a tax cheat, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – as President of the United States, he bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he traveled around the world criticizing America and never once talking of her greatness, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – his actions concerning the Middle East seemed to support the Palestinians over Israel, our longtime ally, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he took American tax dollars to resettle thousands of Palestinians from Gaza to the United States, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he upset the Europeans by removing plans for missile defense system against the Russians, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he played politics in Afghanistan by not sending troops early on when the Field Commanders said they were necessary to win, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he started spending us into a debt that was so big we could not pay it off, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he took a huge spending bill under the guise of stimulus and used it to pay off organizations, unions, and individuals that got him elected, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he took over insurance companies, car companies, banks, etc., people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he took away student loans from the banks and put it through the government, people said it didn’t  matter.

WHEN – he designed plans to take over the health care system and put it under government control, people said it didn’t matter.  

WHEN – he claimed he was a Christian during the election and tapes were later made public that showed Obama speaking to a Muslim group and ‘stating’ that he was raised a Muslim, was educated as a Muslim, and is still a Muslim, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he set into motion a plan to take over the control of all energy in the United States through Cap and Trade, people said it didn’t matter.

WHEN – he finally completed his transformation of America into a Socialist  State, people woke up— but it was too late.

Add these up one by one and you get a score that points to the fact that Barrack Hussein Obama is determined to turn America into a Marxist-Socialist society. All of the items in the preceding paragraphs have been put into place. All can be documented very easily. Before you disavow this, do an Internet search. The last paragraph alone is not yet cast in stone. You and I will write that paragraph.

Folks, this all really does matter.  Everyday this man deals on our behalf, represents you and I, the American people, around the world and lies to leaders of our nation and to the leaders of nations all over the world. We deserve better!  I have said it before, but it bears repeating, “A liar will steal from you and a thief will lie to you”.  If you really think it does not matter who is President, or what they say has no real effect, then you are one of those dense, thick-headed liberals, whose brain is “hardwired back-ass-wards”.  I would love to think I that I might help to change your  way of thinking; but, “COMMON SENSE” tells me, “I am drawing to an inside straight.”  Maybe there is hope for you if you read enough of my blogs and who knows you might change to our team like Charles Krauthammer did years ago.

AND, THE QUESTION IS ???

Hey, the question is: Why is there always talk of Social Security running out of money; but, you never hear about welfare running out of money, now do you ???  It really is a “COMMON SENSE” question.  Everyday or so, you hear that we have to reform the entitlement programs; and then, they bring up “social security” in the same breath.  Have you ever asked yourself, “How can “social security” be an entitlement program when working people have paid into the fund their entire working life?”  When we all started this program there were about 20 or so workers for every retired person.  Today, that has changed to about 4 workers for every retired worker.  A great difference for sure; but, we are holding the program even or losing slightly. So, when we had all the extra workers, the fund had to be growing rapidly.  Now ask yourself, “Where did all the funds go?”  They went into the general fund and were used for everything, including to fund welfare.

It just makes me “mad as hell” to hear them call the “social security program” an entitlement. And, if I could get my hands on those idiots; well, let’s just say, “it would not be pretty” and I’d go to jail. So, I wage this “war of words” instead; which, if Obama gets his way, will soon get you the same sentence.  It is a horrible thought that they have absconded with our money from Social Security to fund the dead beat part of society.  By the way, that was President Carter that did so.  It was with the backing of a Democratic Congress and has always been the Democrats, like Clinton, that have messed with the funds.  If they had kept their greedy little mitts off the fund, it would still be solvent today.  Just one more thing the Democrats have screwed up when in power and given the chance.   Remember that the next time you go to vote and vote accordingly.

I get a little off track sometimes; but, we must return to the question above.  The politicians in this country always want to “rob from the rich to give to the poor” and I for one am sick of it.  You notice I did not clarify parties here because the Republicans are guilty, also.  Not nearly to the extent as the Democrats, but guilty also.  When we had complete control of the government during the Bush years, the Republicans spent way to much money and that is why our “founding fathers” opted for a divided government.

I would love to hear a politician say, “We are running out of welfare funds”, but I won’t hold my breath.  You see they have discovered that the “senior citizens” will roll over while the poor will protest.  They are trading “freebies” for votes.  It amounts to a legal way to buy votes.  If they gave you cash, it would be illegal. But, it is okay to buy your vote with “freebies”.  No one will vote against “Santa Claus” which is what the Democratic party has become in the eyes of so many in this country that do not want to work.  They give out welfare checks, food stamps, rent subsidies, utility subsidies, free medical care, free “OBAMA phones” and free school breakfast/lunches and the list just continues to grow.  In Hawaii, they means tested the freebies and you would have to make between 60/65k to maintain the life style of the deadbeats.  How in the hell do you ever get someone off the “dole” and back working when it is a better life standard to just lie around or spend the day at the beach while on assistance?

Please remember what you have read here today the next time you have a chance to vote–“vote the bums out”–as it only makes “COMMON SENSE” to do so.

WHERE HAVE ALL THE GOOD MEN GONE, A LOT OF YOUNG WOMEN WANT TO KNOW !!!

That is one hell of good question.  I meet young women all the time that know that Mom and I have been married going on 39 years and they long to find a life’s partner.  In fact, I just met a very nice and very attractive young woman while purchasing supplies for one of our jobs who is single and admits she can not find “good husband” type guys.  It was funny because Mom and I, while stopped in traffic for a wreck,  started discussing this very issue just an hour before.  I later told this young lady what I had told Mom and she admitted that she felt I was right.

She, the young lady, and I were discussing the reason for the divorce rate when I asked, “Do you know why the rate is so high or why there are no long term marriages as in the past?” She looked at me with some suspicion and after a moment she said, please tell me.  I told her, and I quote, “It is the men’s fault because they are so immature.”  Mom even agreed with me during our trip.  I have told two ladies my ideas on this subject and both have agreed.  Hell, that is 100 % agreement.  Unheard of in this day and time.  I will explain it here in “COMMON SENSE” terms to see if the percentage will hold up.  You see, I believe that  all we  have is a bunch of wussies from which these ladies have to make their choice.  The young men have not been taught how to treat a lady and are at best just immature boys; while, these young ladies are longing for  the company of a real man.  They are looking  for a real warrior, a real provider and a real lover who can be a real spiritual father to their children. A real man is all of the above in differing degrees at different times.  The young men out there today are neither a warrior, a provider, nor sexually mature; and as to being a spiritual father, they are clueless.  We discussed the subject and she admitted to me that the only guy she even considered husband material was 10 years her senior.  It was strange when she brought that point forward because you see, I am 11 years senior in relation to Mom.  Mom walked up about that time and we all continued the discussion all the way out the door and while loading the truck.  I explained to the young lady that last week in south S.A., at a Valero station, I remarked to the lady behind the counter as I paid for our “hot dog dinner” on the tailgate of the truck “Do not tell me I do not know how to treat a lady,” “Two chili dogs and a Dr. Pepper Icee.”  “Last of the big spenders”.

As we were saying our “good byes” after loading the supplies, I said to the young lady, this is another reason for our longevity as I opened the truck door to assist Mom’s entry.  The young lady was astounded that I did so.  She said she had only had one guy do that in all her dates.  Folks, this is a sign of respect.  I asked her, “Do you know how to make it happen?” and she said no.  So I told her to let him get in the car and to just stand there waiting.  Believe me he will get the message. But, I warned her to do this when he comes to pick you up and while still in front of your house.  If he refuses, simply go back in the house and write him off as “a lost cause”. It only makes “COMMON SENSE” to do so.

Some time ago, Mom and I were heading to my high school reunion. We had one stop to make; and as I was assisting her into the truck there were three ladies in the car next to us and the driver said to Mom, “He’s a keeper, honey.”  You see people do notice.  I was taught at an early age to respect women. My Mom told me when I started to date, “She might not be that special one; but if you cared enough to ask her out, then for that one night you should treat her as though she is the only lady in your life”.  I have a tear in my eye as I can still hear her saying that today as if it were yesterday.

You know, it really does make “COMMON SENSE”.  And if you young men will show respect for these beautiful creatures God has placed on this earth and show them you are a “real man”, “they will beat a path to your door”. Show them you can be the man God knows you can be.  Remember, a warrior, a provider, a lover and a spiritual father figure, and she will say, “What a man!!”

GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN, WHO’S REALLY AT FAULT ?

It’s your fault; no, it’s your fault.  Sound familiar?  It is what both the House and the Senate are saying to one another and it is what you hear from your kids if you have more than one kid.  There is some blame for both sides; but, we really need to examine the issue in-depth to find the culprit.  So, I’m going to throw out my two cents worth of “COMMON SENSE” to see if I can make “heads or tails” out of this mess.

First, let me in all fairness proclaim that I know why the parties can not get along.  One party is  “the party of COMMON SENSE” and tries to offer a logical argument; while, the other party’s  brains are hardwired completely different and cannot even begin to understand “the COMMON SENSE approach”.  You all know from my blog title that I’m a “COMMON SENSE” guy; and because I think you can solve most if not all problems thru “COMMON SENSE,” then I must think the Conservatives are right and they are the ones looking at this from the “COMMON SENSE” angle.

The House of Representatives made three proposals, or passed three bills, that went to the Senate only hours before the government shutdown.  Their first choice was to try to defund DemoCare.  That is the true name that this bill should bear since it was passed 100% by the democrats with zero support of republicans.  That makes this DemoCare and they own the damn thing lock, stock and barrel.  When that was rejected by the Senate, the House tried a second time with a bill “to remove the individual mandate” similar to the way President Obama removed the business mandate.  The Senate rejected that also; so, the House tried a third time with a bill that said basically “Everyone should be treated exactly the same under the terms of DemoCare”.  What a great concept!!! Everyone, even the lawmakers and their staffs right along with President Obama and his family, should have to join a “government exchange”.  That would mean that the lawmakers would have to live with the laws they pass for you and I to follow.  “But, not only no, but hell no” the Democratic Senate wanted no part of anything so fair. Now, I think you can begin to see why I say the repubs are of the “COMMON SENSE” folks while the Dems are lawmakers with brains that are “hardwired” different from the common folk.  For the life of me, I do not understand why anyone would vote for a group of “elitists” who thought they should not follow the laws they set for the common folk.  They exempt themselves from all sort of laws which they require for the commoners.  Why hell, they do not fall under the social security program; but, sure as hell, tell us we should not only follow it but be damn grateful that they give it to us as an “entitlement program”.  “ENTITLEMENT PROGRAM MY ASS”, EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU PAID INTO THE PROGRAM SO NEVER EVER LET THEM MAKE YOU FEEL THAT IT IS AN ENTITLEMENT PROGRAM.  YOU EARNED EVERY PENNY YOU GET!!!!

I’m going to become an oracle here in that I’m going to predict massive indenity fraud in this DemoCare.  They are hiring some 16K navigators to help people sign up for this program.  Does any one recall Acorn and all the fraud associated with their group?  Many charges were filed; but, I do not believe anyone ever went to jail for voter fraud.  These are the same type of people they will hire for this program.  The idenity theft rings are already seeding the navigator work force with their own people and the fraud will run rampant .  Just remember that you heard it from the “all-seeing, all-knowing” “COMMON SENSE” guru.

Folks, if after reading this “COMMON SENSE” approach to this government shutdown and you still do not understand, then I can only come to the “COMMON SENSE” thought that you are one of those illogical dunderheads and that your brain is “hardwired” backwards. As Jeff Foxworthy might say, and it makes good “COMMON SENSE”, “You might be Demoneck”.  Well, good luck with that; and, we do not have to worry that “COMMON SENSE” will ever get in the way of you running in reverse.  Please do the world a favor and please never procreate as you will only lower the intelligence level.  Thank you so very much.

THE MOST EDUCATIONAL TOOL EVER, THE TELEVISION !!!

I know, I know, you all think I’m crazy with this thought about the television.  I can hear it all now.  Each and everyone is saying, “He has finally lost his mind as there is nothing on the T.V. worth watching, much less learning”.  You are right! But, the point you are missing is that our young people are learning from what is shown on the T.V.   The sex and violence are on nearly every channel and are watched over and over everyday by our youngsters.  So, guess what, they are learning all about sex and violence.  I did not say in the title that it was a good force in education, only a force.  We, as a group, must decide if this is the type of material we want stuffed into our children’s brains.  After a while, they become desensitized to the material and start to emulate in real life what they have learned from the T.V.  I was bad enough when the hormones started to “rage”; but, if I had been exposed to all the sex and nudity like our kids are today, I’d have been a “wild man”.  You can hardly find good programing for a family during any time slot.  Just look at the “music videos” for an example.  They border on the edge of porn, not soft porn but hardcore porn.  Let’s take a short stroll down “memory lane” and compare yesteryear with today.

In the time frame in which I grew up, the channels, all three of them, would not or could not even show a “lady with child”. While today, they will not only show her but show her in the nude.  Back in the days, Lucy and Ricky, of “I LOVE LUCY” even had to have twin beds and full length pajamas; while today, they show groups of people in large “king ” sized beds; all naked.  I guess what has set me off on this topic is that the wife and I were watching a show the other night and an ad came on for a “Trojan vibrator for women”.  This was during the family hour and I could only think, “how would the parents explain this to a nine/twelve-year-old”.   I know many will say that they already know of this material…but, doesn’t that make my point.  Does a child of that age need to already know of such? COMMON SENSE says “let kids be kids”.  They have their whole life to experience this type of material and do not need to be exposed at such a young age.  And, we wonder why we are having such an explosion in the illegitimacy rate.  COMMON SENSE says,” we are dumber than a stack of rocks on this subject”.

Now to the violence issue.  Have you really watched the “blood and gore” on any of the crime shows on T.V.?  Is it any wonder that our children no longer place a true value on life?  Have you reviewed the video games your children are playing on the x-box? We let them be exposed to killings after killings during their formative years and then are shocked when a certain percentage become ” serial killers” or “mass murders”.  COMMON SENSE says, “monkey see, monkey do”.  I know some will say “what an old fart” I am; but, stop for just a moment and think about how you were raised and how you are raising your children.  I’ll bet if you are truthful you will see a drastic difference.  All I’m asking is that you review the “cause and results” in play here.

I do admit  that I do watch some of the shows. But, I will also admit that the sex shown on some of these shows “stirs up my hormones”; and if that is true at my age, then we can only guess as to what it does to our younger folks.  I guess the old “COMMON SENSE” thing about “there is snow on the rooftop but a fire in the furnace” might apply here.  In any event, let it be said that I tried to warn you that if this trend continues, “It ain’t  going to get any better”.  If this trend of “sex and violence” continues, we will have to have “two conceal to carry permits”.  One for your weapon to protect yourself from random violence and one for condoms to protect yourself from random sex.

WELL, WE FINALLY FOUND THE WMD’S FROM IRAQ—IN SYRIA!!!!!

Syria has been playing “hide and seek” with the WMD’s from Iraq all these years; but, they finally helped us find them.  The two governments moved them before the Iraq war.  Bashar Al-Assad was the recipient of the gift from Saddam Hussein to prevent them from being found by the U.N. before the war ever started.  The Iraqi Republican Guard even buried a complete fighter jet in the desert, so moving the WMD’s was but a small chore.  Can you imagine the size of the hole to bury a jet?  Can you imagine what else they buried?  We as a country knew for sure that Saddam Hussein had the WMD’s. Because, we, as a country, sold them to him.  This is the same thing that Japan did to us.  We sold them scrap metal and they returned it in bullets and bombs.  Now ask yourself, just how smart are we?  We keep doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different outcome.  “COMMON SENSE” should rear its old head and tell us that this is the “definition of insanity”.  Will we never learn?  Not until we elect leaders with some “COMMON SENSE” instead of the “educated idiots” we have in office at the present time.

We went into the Iraq war to try to capture the WMD’s and to keep them out of the hands of Al-Qaeda.  They would most certainly use them against America if they ever got hold of them.  That does not seem to be the case in Syria.  Bashar Al-Assad is fighting the rebels which is somewhat an off-spring of Al-Qaeda or at best is run in part by members of Al-Qaeda.  Some will say that if the rebels get hold of the WMD’s, they will be a threat to America; but, there is no evidence of that at the present.  Syria is backed in this “civil war” by Russia and Iran, so some of our leaders would like to “poke them in the eye,” so to speak, as revenge or payback for past deeds. “COMMON SENSE” says “that if payback is a bitch and revenge is sweet, then I must be the sweetest bitch you’ll ever meet”.  Not the best basis for going to war. Remember this, “revenge is only sweet when covered with lots of sugar which is bad for your health”.

Everyone who has followed this blog knows that I have been against this President Obama fellow since before he was ever elected.  I judged him harshly during his first run because I knew he would be in “over his head,” and he is, and that he was a liar and he is.  Having said that, I do want to be as fair as I can; he has no good choice.  If we do nothing, many more innocent people will die; but, if we do get involved, we really do not know where it might lead.  This could possibly evolve into a major conflict of which we would be right in the middle.  A lot of the blame can be laid at the feet of President Obama for his policies  in the region.  This is a civil war and we have no business telling them how they should run the country.  We love our way of life and try to impose it on other nations.  We have tried this for years and have not had a lot of success.  These other nations are more “tribal” and do not value “democracy” the way we do.  Why hell, we do not even value “democracy” the way we did in the past.  Just look how this administration has walked on the rule of law and the Constitution.

I am in favor of “keeping our nose clean” on this one.  It tortures me to watch as this goes on; but, it really is none of our business.  Think back, did anyone stick their nose in during our civil war?  Do you think we would think kindly of some other country trying to tell us how to run our country? Oh, but, we have that now. We have Kenya to thank for this mess we are in and some of us do not appreciate their involvement.  Does not seem to be working very well, now does it ?

I would like to point out that we have the same death and destruction just across our border to the south and our government has done nothing good in response.  Since 2006 thru 2012, the official death toll in the “drug war” has reached 60K.  The unofficial death toll is approaching 100K.  What has our government done?  It supplied them guns to kill more people and in the process got some of our agents killed.  The numbers just do not add up, folks.

I want to try to approach this from a “COMMON SENSE” stand point.  Syria has never really been an ally for the U.S.; and, we certainly are not friends with any part of Al-Qaeda; and if we get involved, we have to befriend one side or the other.  “COMMON SENSE” says that if you have two enemies fighting and killing each other, “let it be”.  As long as they are killing each other, maybe they will leave us alone.  We can wait it out until there is a winner then go kick their ass and we will have rid the world of both enemies.  Thank you so very much!!!!

“TO ALL THE GIRLS I LOVED BEFORE”

Well, here we go!!! I do not really know where to start; so, let’s begin with the woman who gave me birth, my “MOM”.  As I have noted before, she was a strong-willed Christian woman who kept me on the straight and narrow.  Not that I did not stray; but, she and her “Christian values” gave me a road map to return to the light from some of my darkest hours.  It is very hard to put into words all that she taught me through her words and actions.  I still follow many of the examples of life that I observed as a growing child.  She taught me right from wrong, loyalty, honor, morals/ethics, and most importantly she taught and instilled in me those “Christian values”.  She was a simple but really great woman; and when she passed, I ask for a moment alone with her and “thanked her for the gravel in my gut”. As I grew into manhood, there have been other women who have helped shape me into what I am today (along with men), but this all about the women. I remember at my Dad’s funeral that Mom was in a tizzy. So, I asked her what the problem was and she said, “there are five or six of your ex-girlfriends  here and they are all coming to the house after the funeral. What are we going to do”? I told her not to worry, ” I’ll get them all in a tight little circle, in a group hug, and they will be like a little covey of quail”.  She did not go for it, but again this is all about the women. Some where kind and gentle while others, “not so much” and some broke my heart, or so I thought at the time.  None will be named except a couple. But, if they have the chance to read this, most will recognize themselves.

Have you ever heard of the “Dear John” letter.  It was received by many a serviceman during his tour of duty in the military. Well, mine was a “Dear John” phone call as I was in “basic training”.  With the last change I could gather, I made the call from the pay phone on the quadrangle.  It was great to hear a voice from home–but the message was “loud and clear”.  “Dear Jerry”, take a hike.  And I did take a hike the very next morning.  A “forced march” of ten miles all the while being harassed by Sargent Crabile.  It was a horrible lesson, but it sank home and prepared me for relationships of my future and how to make them stronger, or at best, how to choose more carefully.

I had one girl friend who competed in the “Miss America” beauty contest (or one of those) and OH,OH MY, what a beauty she was.  A true “blue-eyed, blond beauty”.  I met her while running a ferris wheel with a friend of mine in a small band of carnies.  She only had one flaw.  She did not like to hunt/fish, or at least she did not want me to hunt/fish.  There was always a problem when I went. So, I decided, or she taught me, to choose someone with similar likes. As I look back, both of these girls competed in beauty contest.  One on a local level and one on a national level.  It just proves that old saying from my “Mom” that “beauty is only skin deep”.  You see my “Mom” had “COMMON SENSE” also.  Mom just hated when I told her she was right “beauty was shin deep but some of them were so ugly it had to go plumb to the bone”.  That is “COMMON SENSE” also.

Another was a dark-haired, brown-eyed, simply gorgeous “Latina”.  She never competed in a beauty contest, but she won a beauty contest everyday in the contest of life.  She was undoubtedly the most beautiful woman I have ever seen until my “little wife” came along.  This woman was strikingly beautiful. And once, when I walked her into an event, the singer, a friend of mine, stopped singing.  He later caught me at the bar and asked “where did you find that babe?”. But, alas, she taught me a lesson about loyalty.

I took the time to tell you about those women, or those stories, so I could tell you this story.  It is the story of my wife.  We meet at work just after she graduated from high school.  We became friends from the start and would frequent the local pub, ” Alaskan Palace” most days after work.  We were “buds” as her sister would say.  The “Alaskan Place” was not a fancy joint by no means; but, she lent it a kind of “elegance”.  She was a young “hot mama” and me liked.  She was always a woman of few words and our relationship almost ended when I moved to New Mexico for work because she hardly had anything to say when I would call but she always told me “she loved me” before we hung up and I told her the same.  After we were married, I had to travel to Denver on a business trip; and when I returned I brought her a fur coat.  It was ok, I guess, but made no great impression. So, the following year after a business trip I brought her a very “elegant silver fox” fur because I was going to make an impression.  She met me at the airport gate, I presented my prize and wanted  her to try it on but she said, “I’ll try it on when we get home”.  So much for the big impression.  She has proven to be the most beautiful woman I have ever met.  She is a complete package and has taught me many  “life lessons” and she is “one hell of a fine cook”. Hopefully, we will get many more years than our current 38 years together.  We have spent our lives together building a comfortable existence that few will ever know. So it’s “hats off” to the woman who has shaped me the most, good or bad, it is her fault.

On March 9, 1986, she presented me with a wonderful gift, a baby daughter, and I was impressed.  That daughter is another of the women that helped shape me into what I am today. She is a smart, articulate woman of great character with good morals /ethics.  I could not have asked for a greater gift; and, she has taught me and reinforced all of life’s lessons. She has rewarded me for her raising with a beautiful “granddaughter” that I am sure will help shape me in the future.  Just can’t wait for her to walk so she can follow “old Goby” around. I’m sure she will teach this “old dog” just a few “new tricks.”

I have told these stories for no other reason than to show the “COMMON SENSE” in the influence that others have on us as we mature.  Whether good or bad, every experience helps you grow.  The old “COMMON SENSE” saying is “every experience  that doesn’t kill you, only makes you stronger”.  It really is true and it only makes “COMMON SENSE” to value all the relationships that God has presented and learn from each and everyone of them.

SO, OBAMA WANTS TO HAVE A DISCUSSION ON RACE, WELL HERE IT GOES

I am always open to any and all honest discussions about the racial divide in this country.  As chance would have it, the President just called for us to have this discussion once again; but, we need not have the same old discussion yet again.  If you have been alive and living in America, you know this discussion is not a discussion at all, it is a lecture about how we, the white folk, have trampled on the black folk.  Let me point out that I think that time in our history was really wrong-headed; and that I never owned any slaves.  Although, I had a black lady that kept me when I was very young; and from all the stories, we loved each other dearly.  I called her “Nigger Nanny” and of course that was before “Nigger” became taboo.  At that early age, I can only remember some events.  The memory of her is the “Aunt Jamima” type. For all of you that think these are racial memories, let me assure you they are not.  It is a memory of a warm and loving person who always made wonderful memories for a kid. What could be better than “hot pancakes” loaded with warm maple syrup. But, see how easily a “big boy” can be distracted.

For there to be a true discussion, all parties must be honest and not become offended if the other party is trying to make a point.  The latter is what always happens and it leads to someone being called a “racist” and the discussion ends.  In my opinion, the black community in America always wants to play the victim.  Most all of the white community believes that “slavery” was wrong. They also believe that we have tried to make amends for it and have done a pretty good job to date.  At sometime, the black community must pull themselves up by their own “boot straps”.  I was born into a very proud but, let’s say, “financially challenged” family.  To hell with the “PC” stuff, we were “poor”.  Mom made $1.41 an hour, raised two kids, and believe me we did not vacation in the “lap of luxury”.  Sure there were obstacles placed in my way, just like for the blacks, but I did not let it deter me and neither should they.  Stop the bad behavior that keeps you poor, get an education, and get in the game.  “COMMON SENSE” says “it is not a sin to be born poor, just a sin to stay that way”.

I could go forth and try to list all the “ins  and outs” about racial equality. But, I could never accomplish it as well as Bill O’Reilly did recently in his “Talking Points Memo”, or for that matter, as well as Pat Buchanan did with his piece while still on CNN in 2008.  If you have kept up with the news of late, you know nothing has changed and the President wants to have yet another discussion on race.  The piece by Pat is the most honest statement of fact about the racial divide in America that I’ve seen.  He is not trying to down-grade anyone but simply stating true facts and for this CNN took him off the air.  Says a lot about a network when their pundits preach about a “discussion on race” and one of them presents a factual piece and is crucified.  CNN no more wants to present or hear the truth “than the man in the moon”.  Pat was stating what needs to be said and CNN should promote this type of truth and maybe their ratings would improve.  Put Pat back on the air and remove “Wolf” as he would not know the truth “if it bit him in the ass”.  I am taking the liberty and pleasure of posting the following for you to think about and consider.  Please view with an open mind. Barack says we need to have a conversation about race in America.

Fair enough. But this time, it has to be a two-way conversation. White America needs to be heard from, not just lectured to.

This time, the Silent Majority needs to have its convictions, grievances and demands heard. And among them are these:

First, America has been the best country on earth for black folks. It was here that 600,000 black people, brought from Africa in slave ships, grew into a community of 40 million, were introduced to Christian salvation, and reached the greatest levels of freedom and prosperity blacks have ever known.

Wright ought to go down on his knees and thank God he is an American.

Second, no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans. Untold trillions have been spent since the ’60s on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream.

Governments, businesses and colleges have engaged in discrimination against white folks — with affirmative action, contract set-asides and quotas — to advance black applicants over white applicants.

Churches, foundations, civic groups, schools and individuals all over America have donated time and money to support soup kitchens, adult education, day care, retirement and nursing homes for blacks.

We hear the grievances. Where is the gratitude?

Barack talks about new “ladders of opportunity” for blacks.

Let him go to Altoona and Johnstown, and ask the white kids in Catholic schools how many were visited lately by Ivy League recruiters handing out scholarships for “deserving” white kids.

Is white America really responsible for the fact that the crime and incarceration rates for African-Americans are seven times those of white America? Is it really white America’s fault that illegitimacy in the African-American community has hit 70 percent and the black dropout rate from high schools in some cities has reached 50 percent?

Is that the fault of white America or, first and foremost, a failure of the black community itself?

As for racism, its ugliest manifestation is in interracial crime, and especially interracial crimes of violence. Is Barack Obama aware that while white criminals choose black victims 3 percent of the time, black criminals choose white victims 45 percent of the time?

Is Barack aware that black-on-white rapes are 100 times more common than the reverse, that black-on-white robberies were 139 times as common in the first three years of this decade as the reverse?

We have all heard ad nauseam from the Rev. Al about Tawana Brawley, the Duke rape case and Jena. And all turned out to be hoaxes. But about the epidemic of black assaults on whites that are real, we hear nothing.

Sorry, Barack, some of us have heard it all before, about 40 years and 40 trillion tax dollars ago.

Wow, what an honest statement of facts.  The President wants a discussion, well let’s get at it.  These are facts whether you like them are not.  This is what we need in this country, the truth.  After all, it only makes “COMMON SENSE” to state the facts and let each of us make our own informed decisions.

BOBBY RUSH MAKES A FOOL OF HIMSELF

I just caught a segment on cable where they were interviewing Congressman Rush and he made a complete fool out of himself.  Not only did he show he has no business being on TV, he also verified the fact that he should not be in the Congress. He was an embarrassment to the black community that he was elected to represent.  I do not know if he is too old and the senility has set in, or if he is just uneducated.  I am sorry to be so blunt; but, I know no other way to approach the subject.   This man could hardly hold a thought much less deliver the thought in a somewhat straight fashion.  The interview was, of course, about the Trayvon Martin tragedy and he was grossly misinformed, or he is just a racist, and was telling complete lies.  Let’s hope that he was misinformed; because, I would hate to think that the people of his district are dumb enough to continue to elect a person of this caliber to represent them.

He stated that Mr. Zimmerman quoted things from his mouth that were racial thus proving that he, George Zimmerman, was a racist which he, Bobby Rush, said justified the pursuit of civil rights charges.   That probably would be correct and prove Rush right if it were true.   But, alas, it is completely false only proving that Bobby Rush is a liar who knows better or he is a bigot.  My personal opinion is that he is both a liar and a bigot. The Martin family, their attorneys, and the Attorney General of Florida, that filed the charges, have said it is not and was never about racism, period.  He and all the race baiters, such as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, are the problem when it comes to race relations in America.   They do not want the word “Nigger” or “Nigga” used but there they go acting like one.   I grew up playing football with a black kid named “Preacher” and we called each other names all the time.  I was “whitey” or “cracker” or “honky” and I sometimes called him “nigga”.  All these terms were “terms of endearment” and we had many good laughs.  Notice, he had more names for me than I of him.  I remember  once we got into a fight after a game, and he and I stood back to back to defend ourselves.  By the way, I had it worse than he because I happened to have one of the guy’s, that I beat on, father for civics class.  I do not remember my grade, but he was hard on me afterwards.

Folks, we need to get over this race stuff.  I have no problem with other races as long as they get educated, get a job and take care of their families and do not want my help in the raising of their kids.  If they act like a man, I’ll certainly treat them like a man. I am no better than or worse than any other race as long as the person of that race stands on his own two feet and behaves as “GOD” intended him to do.  I know some have, or will have, a problem with my bluntness; but, I truly feel it is the only way to over come this nonsense of a racial divide in this country.  They have to quit playing the race card to try to win arguments; and when we find racism, we have to help stomp it out.  We must learn to live and let live and the “haters be damned”.  After all, it only makes “COMMON SENSE” to do so. If we want this country to be as great as it can be, we must be as “brothers in the foxholes of war” and have one another’s backs.

A DAD’S INFLUENCE WITHIN THE FAMILY

I know we all say that the Dad’s role is important to the family. but in today’s world, do we really believe it?  The reason I question, what should be a well understood fact, is that today we do all sort of things to diminish not only the father’s role but the role of parents altogether.  I always felt it my duty to guide my daughter and to lead by example.  Never wanted her to see me cheat in business, all the while preaching to her about honesty.  Never wanted to allow her to see me dishonor my Mom/Dad, all the while preaching to her about how one “should honor thou Mother and Father”.  I think you get the picture. And, by the way, aren’t both part of the “TEN”?  (For you heathens out there, the “TEN” is a reference to the “Ten Commandments”.)  What a great place to live this world would be, if only everyone would live by them.  I never really knew if I had succeeded, other than my daughter grew into a woman with great character, until recently when she gave me my Father’s Day card.  It was a profound moment for me and I’d like to share the text with you.  I am sharing this not to bolster my image, but to express in a “COMMON SENSE” fashion just how important Fathers are in their children’s  lives.  Hope this will drive home that point as solidly with you as it did with me. ENJOY!!!

Father’s Day is a time to say “Thank you” to the most important men in our lives.

And, Dad, you deserve to hear it twice—

Once for being a wonderful, warm-hearted father who coached and counseled and cared for me. And once again for being the patient good-humored, attentive grandpa who adds an extra layer of love to our lives.

Seeing what a wonderful grandpa you are touches my heart in a way I never thought possible.

I’m a lucky daughter to have you for my dad, and my family is lucky to have you for their grandpa…and we all love you so very much.

Happy Father’s Day

Now, that should shine a bright light of truth on why Fathers are so important.  You might have noticed that their influence also extends out to a second generation, grand children. I, myself, had not realized that fact until I read the card.  I always knew that the only grandfather I knew made a difference; but, I guess it just went over my head.  You see, this “COMMON SENSE” thing effects everyone including myself.

All that know me personally know of the absence of my father.  As it turned out, my granddad passed away early in my life.  Everything I did was new and experimental;  but, with the help of a strong willed “Mom” and a few friends, I grew into what I am today. I can tell you from experience that it can be done, but is much easier if you have a role model to follow. It would certainly be better if fathers were not absent for any reason and we just might get a better class of men.  They could perhaps instill that pride and respect for the family name that I received from my Mom.  She taught me that the “Wood” family name meant something and that I should never dishonor it with bad behavior.

I can remember teaching my daughter some of life’s lessons such as honesty, integrity and loyalty which I have covered in recent blogs; but, you never really know if you are getting it instilled to the core. Now, for those of you have not kept up with each post,  you have some homework.  Just keep going back and read them all.  I guess from this card’s message I still have a purpose and have not become as useless as I thought.  I can now strive to help impart the same morals/ethics into my grandkids as I did with my daughter.  So, in the future, when you hear some liberal saying that Fathers are not important in kids lives, you can refer back to this blog and know that  not to be true.  After all, it only makes “COMMON SENSE” that Fathers have a real role to play in a child’s upbringing.  You know, this “COMMON SENSE” stuff really works!!!
