Is common sense no more?

“MY BROTHERS IN ARMS” !!!

“My brothers in arms” is a reference to the “brotherhood” that exist between all branches of the “ARMED SERVICES”: Army, Navy, Coastguard, Reserves, Air Force and Marines.  The “brotherhood” is real and is felt to differing degrees by all that have served this great nation.  I served six years and truly feel that I am better off today, as a man, because of that service.  It taught me a number of things, some being: self-respect, team work, loyalty and patriotism.  As all that know me personally will attest, I am very patriotic and it all streams from my time in the service and my respect for the flag.  I get tears in my eyes when the flag goes by or during the “National Anthem”.  I even got emotional during the recent Olympics when one of our people won “gold” and they played the “National Anthem”.  Laugh if you must, but it really does mean something special to me; and you might just get “my boot in your ass” if you laugh too long or too loud.

I have always said that all who “served”, no matter the branch, have this feeling and  I would really like to have some of you respond under the comments section.  Please, give me your take on how “patriotism” effects you.  It will be very interesting to see if I am correct. I think it only makes “COMMON SENSE” that those who served have more dedication to the country and her well-being.

I will tell you that I could not agree more with what you are to read in the following “Open Letter To The President”.  This soldier says it about as well as any I have heard, while all the time disclosing information that I have never heard about the President.  This man was elected without any real knowledge of “who he really is”!!!  I knew from the start that he had no real character; but he has shown me time and time again that as bad as I thought he was or might be; he is much worse.  Pay close attention as you read this soldier’s letter and I’m sure you will hear a thing or two that was never disclosed by the media during the vetting process.  I have not fact checked every word but believe it to be true; and if it is true, it sheds a lot of light on how he reacts today.

Senior Airman Brian Kolfage is a U.S. hero.  He is a triple-amputee veteran of the War in Iraq who has surpassed all odds and made the most incredible recovery of any veteran to ever survive his injuries.  He is a patriot – the kind of man you want your son to grow up to be.  This is his letter to Obama on President’s Day.

My Open Letter to Obama on Presidents’  Day.

I nearly died in a war that you and most of your colleagues supported overwhelmingly, including the two presidents who came before you. Many citizens may not agree with waging war in Iraq to free the oppressed Iraqi citizens, but it’s something that warriors like myself have zero control over. I joined to serve my country and to better my life. I’ve seen things that you could never imagine, and they have made me the person I am today.

Mr. Obama, even though we share extreme opposite views, we have one thing in common, we both attended school in Hawaii. However, that’s where the similarities end. You see, as you attended your exclusive, private school, I would ride my bike to Kaimuki High school in one of the roughest areas in Hawaii every morning and would ride past Punahou, the exclusive private school you attended. I would notice the Bentleys, Maserati’s, and fancy foreign cars that all the kids were dropped off in; wow it must have been extremely rough in Hawaii living that life, right? I could only imagine what it was like to have that kind of money. Fortunately for you, not many people are aware of the school and the upper class citizens who attended it. The tuition to attend your exclusive, private school was more than it cost me to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the University of Arizona. You talk a big game when it comes to financial inequality, yet I’m quite sure you have no idea what it’s truly like to have sacrifice. You were one of the elitist children in Hawaii.

After High School, we each chose very different paths. You were able to attend Ivy League schools, and I sought out a military career to in hopes of earning a degree. What we have in life as children usually sets the tone for what we will face later in life that will make us successful. I worked to get where I am today, and YOU WERE HANDED IT….Mr. Inequality.

I volunteered to go to Iraq on both of my deployments, and the second time I begged to go even after I wasn’t selected, which ultimately got me placed on the team where I would lose both legs and my dominant arm. I’ve never asked myself was losing 3 limbs in a war worth it, even though many Americans were against it.

I am frequently reminded of the many young Iraqi children who would beg me for water, food, and toys while I was stationed in Iraq. Children, who in all aspects made the poorest of poor American children look rich. You have no idea what it really means to be poor. It’s laughable that you, who would have no idea what it means to be poor would so frequently play the inequality card.

While I was in Iraq, our mission was to liberate the Iraqi citizens from a tyrant and that’s what we did. Never forget, it was your people who sent us there, like the Clintons, John Kerry, Nancy Pelosi & Carl Levin. However, since the day you busted onto the scene you’ve been talking about ending the war and pulling the troops out, not understanding the blood sweat and tears that so many Americans and Iraqi’s invested. And with complete disregard for every life sacrificed, every limb lost, and every broken family, you bailed on our mission to pursue an agenda that was completely centered on your re-election in 2012. If you didn’t bail on Iraq you were worried that you may not get re-elected and that’s a fact. Just before elections on Oct 11, 2012 you said “Al Qaeda is on the run and Osama bin Laden is dead.” Look at Iraq now, they are in shambles and the Al Qaeda flag is flying freely. Clearly, you’re unfit for duty as a Commander in Chief. You put your own agenda ahead of America’s agenda, and now you have single handedly ruined and destroyed nearly everything we gained in Iraq. It clearly means nothing to you, because the only thing that you’ve personally invested in that country was a promise to bail on them. However, people like me gave limbs, friends have died, and we’ve watched families destroyed by war’s aftermath.

I’m not placing blame on you for the war, I’m placing blame on you for destroying what we’ve worked so hard to build. You’re not a leader, you’re a community organizer. A leader would have stood up regardless of the situation and put America’s agenda first and that is ensuring a secure Iraq even after 10 years of war. But, you placed Barack first, just as Robert Gates confirmed in his new book. I can’t help but think of those poor kids who I gave water and toys to 11 years ago. They’re probably 15 or 16 years old now, and I can only imagine what it’s like for them to have their nation being torn apart yet again; all because of your poor leadership qualities. Regardless of why we went to Iraq, its water under the bridge. We went there, we waged war, and we not only owed it to our KIA’s but we owed it to the citizens of Iraq. We invaded their country and turned it upside down, and you bailed on them. You bailed on our soldiers and you’ve wasted every death and every limb, it’s all for nothing. And to make matters worse you blame others for your failures

You’re just another elitist rich thug who’s pretended to live the rough life growing up in the inner-city. You’re only worried about your own agenda and furthering your party instead of taking care of Americans. Your inability to be a leader at some of the most critical points has caused both of our wars to fail. You’ve been a joke to most of our veteran community and we have no faith in your ability to lead.

Did you catch the part about the “private school”?  Isn’t it strange that this President went to a private, elite school but resists “school vouchers” for the “under privileged” children of today?  Damn near all the blacks fell all over themselves to vote for this “community organizer” never realizing how he felt about them.  He is an elitist; and he was and is saying to the black community that he is black but that you are just “niggers” and do not deserve a chance at a first class education.  This term does not just refer to the blacks but to all the “under privileged”!  This is not only racial discrimination, but class discrimination as well.  We as a nation need for all our children  to get the best education possible so that they develop into first-rate citizens.  This education need not be void of “spiritual education” and knowledge of “GOD ALMIGHTY” and the sacrifices he made to make you whole. It must also include education in “morals and ethics” backed by scripture and the “TEN COMMANDMENTS”.  It only makes “COMMON SENSE” that you need reading, writing and arithmetic  along with spiritual guidance as well.

MLK, WOULD HE BE A CONSERVATIVE TODAY ???

Boy howdy, am I going to stir up some liberals! We have just recently come off of the MLK holiday so I thought I might present some thought provoking ideas. They, the liberals, may have a heart attack after reading what I have to say.  That is OK with me as I have for sometime been trying to rid the world of their plight.  I truly believe that MLK would indeed be a conservative today and here is a news flash: he may have, or was borderline, at the time  of his death.  Just like Governor Martinez said after a meeting with the republican committee in New Mexico, “Damn I’m a Republican”; and just like her, I think, MLK probably said to himself, “You know I find myself agreeing more with conservatives everyday.”  Now I realize that this is a hard pill for some to shallow; but, I will make my point in the words to follow.

First off, MLK was a “man of the cloth”, a “God-fearing Christian,” which tells me he had to be more conservative than all those so-called Christian “Dixiecrats”.  There is no way you can be a Christian and be a democrat.  As I have stated before, the two are opposing ideas and are 180 degrees at different ends of the scale.  So, MLK was a Christian thusly more conservative.  He also believed in equal pay for equal work which is a conservative principle.  Democrats believe in the union where you get paid the same, but that you can not be fired so the guy next to you can get the same pay for half the production.  MLK applied for a gun permit but was denied.  He surely believed in the 2nd amendment or he would have not applied for the gun permit.  Yet another conservative principle.  By the way, the blacks, as slaves, were not permitted to own a weapon or gun powder for that matter. Just another restriction of rights, so the black community of today better be careful of what they wish.  He as a Christian would never have thought it a great idea to pay a person unemployment for almost three years and to allow welfare to be spent on other than basic survival items.  Again, another Christian, but also conservative principle.  He was big into a man being judged by “his character rather than the color of his skin”.  Yet another conservative principle.  The republicans are the party that freed the slaves and yet the “old yellow dog democrats” convinced the blacks to vote for them because of the welfare system.  That system is just another form of keeping people on the plantation.  It is truly amazing that the democrats preach one thing in the light of day and practice something completely different in the dark of night.  Be a man, stand on your own two feet, take care of your own family, get a good education and get in the game.  That is not only what republicans stand for but it is the “AMERICAN” way and shall I say makes “COMMON SENSE”.

So, here we are after taking a look at the material presented; and, I for one can only conclude that MLK, if alive today would not only be more conservative today than he was before he was assassinated; but might very well be promoting the election of conservatives over liberals to public office.  I can only imagine how he would have changed and how he might have changed the landscape of American politics.

It is hard to view our America in the shape it is in today knowing all the while that with a few simple “COMMON SENSE” changes we could get back to the ideas that led us to the  greatness of yesteryear.  Please inform yourselves on the issues and vote for the people who really want to turn this ship around.  We need people in office that are not concerned with their own well-being, but with the well-being of our country. After all, it only makes “COMMON SENSE” to support the true patriots.

BEING AN AMERICAN; WHAT DOES IT REALLY MEAN ?

Well, here we go again.  I’ve given the readers a break and I have taken a little break to try to refresh my thoughts.  As you can see from the title, I have been thinking about being an American and what does it really mean.  I can and will tell you what I think it means; but, what I really want to accomplish is for each of you to study the title and decide for yourself what it means to you.  I think that you might agree with me after giving it some thought.

You see, I think this is the greatest nation on earth and I am both proud and thankful to be an American.  We have a “Constitution” and a “Bill of Rights” that guide us each step along the path of being an American.  As important as these documents are, we must realize that our “rights come from our Creator” and that these documents only support the “rights from our Creator” in a legal manner.  America was founded on basic “Judeo-Christian” beliefs.    So, it only makes “COMMON SENSE” that each of us thank “GOD” for the opportunity of being born here instead of anywhere else, like maybe Indonesia, Kenya or Iran.  The people born in these places, as well as all Communists countries, have no basic instinct into the freedoms of this great country.  Therefore, when someone emigrates to this country they must be educated in our ways, language, culture and laws.  In early America, most immigrants came to this country through “Ellis Island” and there were requirements and a test which had to be passed to prove each immigrate deserving of the title of “AMERICAN”.  Boy has that changed!  I have a dear friend that became a U.S. citizen a couple of years ago and she was so proud.  We had a really big party for her with all her friends in attendance with all the red, white and blue decorations.  There were tears in everyone’s eye when she said in her speech “Just how proud she was to finally be an AMERICAN”.  It took her about five years to get through all the red tape and to take her nationalization test.  After she passed, she told me “I studied so hard because it was so important to me; but, I was disappointed in the simplistic questions on the test. It was so simple that I could have passed it and never studied.  It really should be much more demanding a test for such a prize as citizenship”.  Stop for a moment folks and think about this.  We, as a nation, are giving this wonderful prize of citizenship and not demanding very much in return.

Not only have we cheapened citizenship; but, we no longer even care if the immigrants become citizens.  We have cheapened it by bestowing all the rights of citizenship without requiring that they become citizens.  We have lost our way.  Not only have we lost our way; but, we have, or, are in the process of losing our culture.  In an effort to not offend the immigrants, we have robbed not only ourselves but the immigrants themselves.  We have robbed them of that prideful feeling of EARNING citizenship and TRULY BECOMING AN AMERICAN. Some of my most prized processions are the ones I had to “work my ass off to get”.  The two that I prize the most are my wife and daughter and believe you me when I tell you they made me earn their respect.  Of course, the “Runt” is making me work also.

Now to prove my point I’m going back to 1907 when a President, Theodore Roosevelt, made a speech about immigration.  I have mentioned how I feel; but, I will never be able to say it any better than he did.  It is something that should be said again and again and every “AMERICAN” should hear it and never forget it.  The following is a exert from his speech:
Theodore Roosevelt’s ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.
‘In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American….There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.’
Theodore Roosevelt 1907

I know that some liberals will hardily disagree with this “one American” thing, but I do not care.  It is time for us to become “ONE AMERICA” again and that truly does require no more of this African-American or Mexican-American or Jewish-American.  We are all and must be AMERICANS – FIRST AND FOREMOST!  Maybe we should pay more attention to, “ONE NATION, UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE  WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL”.  “How sweet the sound”!  That truly is what being American is all about and it only makes “COMMON SENSE” to spread the word.

COME AND TAKE IT

“Come and Take It” sounds like a good movie title or a good song title or maybe just a double-dog-dare ya!!!  Well it is a good song title about gun control by one of our somewhat local artist, Steve Vaus.  We call him local because he truly has “THE ATTITUDE”. It is not his first venture into songs of political nature.  He has always been on the cutting edge with his music and is a “pretty damn good hand” at what he does.

If you have followed my blog at all, you know my feelings toward the gun control issue and the infringement of our rights by the government on many fronts.  He has captured the feelings of many Texans and just a lot of other people to boot.  It strikes a nerve with me and brings a tear to my eye; but, please do not think of that tear as a sign of weakness.  Better yet, understand it as a tear of pride.  The same thing happens when the National Anthem is played or a flag goes by in a parade.  You see, I have served my time for this country and was raised to respect “OLD GLORY” and to not allow her to be tread upon.  People have asked me many times, “What is it that makes Texans so proud?”  I tell them it is just bred in us.  I was “BORN AMERICAN BY FATE but BORN TEXAN BY THE GRACE OF GOD”.  We are a self-reliant group of people who will not mess with others and that is where the old saying “DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS”, comes from I guess.  It’s an attitude; the “cowboy attitude”.  Someone once pointed out that I do not dress like a “cowboy”; and a friend spoke up and said “oh, but he is one”.  Again, it’s not the hat, boots, jeans or truck, it’s just the attitude.

It is the attitude that Steve Vaus captures in his new song “COME AND TAKE IT”.  Enjoy and spread the news and our blog site with your friends and family through all the social media right along side of his great song.  After all, it only makes “COMMON SENSE” to share something new and good.
